As part of the Bydgoszcz Academy of Arts, we invite you to creative and lavender-scented hand embroidery workshops entitled “Lavender Teddy Bears”!

During the class, each participant will create their own teddy bear filled with dried lavender – a unique, hand-embroidered decoration with a soothing scent. Under the guidance of the instructor, participants will learn several basic embroidery stitches that will allow them to decorate the fabric and give the teddy bear an individual character. The finished teddy bear – full of charm – can become a beautiful decoration, a fragrant addition to a wardrobe or drawer, as well as a lovely, handmade gift. The workshops are an excellent opportunity to relax, learn and encounter traditional crafts in a modern form.

Joanna Michalska-Brzezińska – artist, fashion designer and cultural animator, specialising in hand sewing techniques and the promotion of traditional embroidery. For many years, she has been running sewing and embroidery workshops for children, teenagers, adults and seniors, promoting traditional crafts in a modern setting. Recipient of a scholarship from the Ministry of Culture and National Heritage as part of the #kultura w sieci (culture online) programme and an artistic scholarship from the City of Bydgoszcz for projects related to local heritage and handicrafts. She received an award in the “Impuls Kultury” competition for her original social project “Miś, wyraź się dziś” (“Teddy Bear, express yourself today”) – a nationwide teddy bear sewing campaign, which resulted in over 300 handmade toys presented in various cities across Poland in three editions. Founder of the Nitkomaniacy Foundation, which supports educational and artistic activities in the field of handicrafts. In her work, she combines tradition, ecology and contemporary design, encouraging a creative approach to fabrics and clothing.
