4 p.m. – 5.30 p.m. – “Close to reality. Socially sympathetic art” – a meeting with Elżbieta Jabłońska, Anna Łazar, Emilia Orzechowska and Ivan Melnychuk
This Thursday (28.10), we would like to invite you to the Municipal Gallery bwa City Gallery for curator Emilia Orzechowska’s guided tour of Elżbieta Jabłońska’s exhibition “nie/dokładnie”, as well as to a meeting with the artist and a conversation with Anna Łazar, Elżbieta Orzechowska and Ivan Melnychuk, titled: “Close to reality. Socially sympathetic art.”, during which the guests will reflect on the potential of art in public space and its effectiveness in shaping new social attitudes of contemporary city dwellers. We will talk about community, co-responsibility, radical empathy and the causality of art based on Elżbieta Jabłońska’s previous realisations in public space, such as “Poręcz” (Railing – project carried out in collaboration with Ivan Melnychuk in 2015 in Kyiv), “Ćwiczenia z zaniechania” (Exercises in abandonment, 2014, Sopot | 2017, Supraśl) or “Znikające przeszkody” (Disappearing Obstacles, 2017, Lublin). Together with the audience, we will reflect on the potential of Bydgoszcz as a city open to art and site-specific projects in public space, looking at the 2012 installation by Joanna Rajkowska, “Termometry i szklanki” (Thermometers and glasses) carried out in the doorway at 5 Mazowiecka St., which thanks to the “Bring a Mirror” action initiated by Elżbieta Jabłońska in cooperation with Municipal Gallery bwa was recently renovated and revitalised.
