Maria Apoleika, Anubis

“Nose to Nose” is an exhibition about those who are the driving force behind the whole endeavour and who, in a sense, represent the community and its needs, whilst respecting the individuality of each person. This is an exhibition about dogs, their needs, relationships, tastes and adventures. This is an invitation to share our common life stories. And our common life stories – after all, they are nothing other than our shared destinies. Let them be a story about how to recognise each other’s needs, and how to extend empathy across species. Because this is our shared story, written every day alongside our pets. It gives rise to further reflections and educational themes. Drawing on our own experience, we arrive at broader insights concerning life with animals in general. We take a closer look at it and draw conclusions – sometimes humorous, sometimes critical, but always respectful.

Maria Apoleika – born in Bydgoszcz, she has spent half her life so far in the Tri-City and the other half in Łódź. She works in painting, printmaking, small-scale sculpture and illustration, and publishes books. For over a dozen instalments now, she has been drawing “Psie Sucharki” (Dog Groaners) – single-panel cartoons and comic strips about the lives of dogs and their owners. Misio, an adopted silver royal poodle, fulfils the duties of her On-Board Dog.
