From December 6th, 2004, to January 9th, 2005 the BWA Gallery of Bydgoszcz invites for a video-art presentation. „Retransmisja Vol.1” is the first edition of the festival of Polish video art.
We wish to present a broad variety of Polish video art, various artistic attitudes and different artistic approaches towards moving pictures as means of expression. RETRASMISJA is organised by the artistic collective IKOON.ART. It will be also presented in Gdańsk, Łódź and Warsaw. The works have been proposed by the invited curators: Konrad Kuzyszyn, Łukasz Ogórek and Łukasz Gronowski. “We decided to present the movies as screen presentations, realising what a limitation such a form is for video art. We proposed the subject: “Personal Television”. In this way we wanted to refer to the beginnings of video art, which itself referred to the invention of television, the way it is used and the form of central transmission. Approximately 30-minutes-long movie segments, in which the video works will be presented, are put together not by authors, but by subjects and discussed problems, or the ways they are expressed. We are set on separating the concept of video art from such concepts as off movies, independent movies, or amateur movies. The difference is in the authors´ intentions, their artistic roots and intellectual potential. Therefore, RETRANSMISJA has somewhat educational character.
