The organiser of the Visual Arts Competition for the artists of Bydgoszcz is the Society for Cultural Initiatives in Bydgoszcz, and the co-organiser – the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz. This year’s competition was held for the ninth time. The theme of the previous ones: 2009 2009 – The Yard at 62 Dworcowa St.; 2010 – The Yard; 2011 – Bridges; 2012 – Inspired by Wyczółkowski; 2013 – Streets; 2014 – Home; 2015 – Us, 2016 ‒ Neighbours.
For this year’s competition, there were 61 works submitted — paintings, drawings, graphics, collages, sculptures and photographies by 33 artists from Bydgoszcz. The Jury composed of: Prof. Aleksandra Simińska (visual artist), Barbara Chojnacka (art historian), Wojciech Woźniak (photographer) honoured eight artists.
In the field of visual arts, the prizes were awarded to: Leszek Goldyszewicz (1st prize), Magdalena Rucińska (2nd prize), Adam Strzałkowski (3rd prize), Rafał G. Nowicki (honourable mention).
In the field of photography, the prizes were awarded to: Anna Maciejewska and Anna Mackiewicz-Chojnacka (1st prize), Dariusz Gackowski (2nd prize), Mateusz Chojnacki (3rd prize), Witold Jurkiewicz (honourable mention).
The prizes and honourable mentions were funded by the President of Bydgoszcz and the Municipal Gallery of bwa in Bydgoszcz (in the form of a purchase for the gallery collection) and the John Paul II Treasure Fund.
