Marta Czarnecka, 16 września 2017, część II, Błędne narracje, Zdarzenia równoległe, 2017, olej na płótnie, (fragment)

The exhibition is a special prize from the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz awarded to Marta Czarnecka in the 25th National Review of Young Painting PROMOCJE 2015. At the exhibition of Marta Czarnecka three painting cycles were shown: Symbiotic object-events, Erroneous narrations | Parallel events, Re-interpretations, One day, and two installations: Memory defragmentation – screen printing installation and Transient States.
“Marta Czarnecka’s painting is characterised by discreet, nostalgic charm. Drilling in the still warm amalgam of the memory of youth results in the creation of extremely seductive paintings. The beautiful, twenty-year-old characters fill up successive frames of “Acts of Self-awareness”, “Re-interpretations” or “Error narrations…”, and show the viewer their past. However, her paintings do not refer to the past. First of all, it is the painting of memory.
Czarnecka loops the form, transforms the matter of memory, confabulates. She presents an image of memory that distorts the images of the past. Indeed, her images of memory lie, but only on the assumption that we expect memory to speak a single, only right, version of truth. This is not a trivial story about what happened. With a painting gesture, Czarnecka tries to embrace the memory of how it was. She creates painting cycles. She consciously chooses a strategy of supplementing the thematic thread in her subsequent works. Showing the issue from many points of view is a perfect reflection of the meaning of her projects, denying the existence of only one truth of being, one narrative of life.
Different perspectives reveal successive layers of memory, successive layers of complex reality in which we live. Each subsequent painting echoes previous experiences and memories. Each project also brings a new perspective on what has happened, and how “here and now” is shaped in relation to that, which determines how we will perceive what will happen in the future. The paintings are born from paintings, to recall the famous saying by Zdzisław Kępiński: “Art is born from art”.
