The “Shadow of Freedom” exhibition is a look at the history of the past century from the angle of art. It is presented in the works by artists from various generations. Stories and tales, myths and legends – close and distant, general and local – are seen from the perspective of nostalgic memory, ironic distance or mystification. They are testimonies of traumas, they touch upon taboos that are bashfully silenced in “clear narratives.” The story told in this way differs from the story presented in the light of pathos. It shows the complexity of fate not in a dazzling glow but in a shadow that is gentle to the eye and tolerant of subtle nuances.
The first edition of the exhibition was held as part of the Ars Cameralis Festival in 2018, the organizers: Institution of Culture Ars Cameralis in cooperation with the Gallery of Contemporary Art BWA in Katowice.
