Kajetan Giziński. A different model of an artist – Kandinski as a theurgist
The lecture “A different model of an artist – Kandinski as a theurgist” will present one of the key issues for understanding the achievements of this outstanding artist. Vasily Kandinski, though everyone knows him as an avant-garde leader, founder and member of numerous groups and associations, actually understood his mission quite differently than being in the front guard. Although in his theory of art elements of the philosophy of genius are also present, in fact its source is derived from the tradition of an ancient priestly school, which was transplanted into Russian soil by symbolists.
Kajetan Giziński, a visual artist, art critic, a graduate in the field of protection of cultural heritage, specialising in artistic criticism at the Faculty of Fine Arts, Nicolaus Copernicus University in Torun; since 2016, an assistant in the Department of Graphic Arts at the District Museum in Bydgoszcz. He publishes texts on art theory and reviews in the Toruń cultural monthly “Menażeria” and “Bydgoskie Oko.” He is passionate about art graphics, abstract painting and Russian culture.
