Join us for another lecture of the Bydgoszcz Academy of Art.
“I keep hearing ‘design, design’, but it’s not just about the visual aspects. The item must also be functional. An error of just a millimetre can make it uncomfortable and impractical,” said Danuta Duszniak in a 2017 interview with Monika Stelmach, explaining her understanding of what good design is. This time, as part of the ‘Icons of Polish Design’ series, we will be taking a look at the work of Danuta Duszniak (1926–2025). Her professional career, beginning in the 1950s, was linked to the Institute of Industrial Design, and from the late 1960s onwards to ‘Cepelia’. Above all, we associate her with the ‘Kolumb’ coffee set, designed by her in 1956 and comprising a pot, a cup and a saucer; the designer’s portfolio includes over 60 designs. The colours and optimism that these designs embody will brighten up your wait for spring.
