The exhibition presents the best of student works from the Faculty of Design Arts at the Jan and Jędrzej Śniadecki Bydgoszcz University of Science and Technology, structured around interior design, visual communication and design. The interpenetration and interaction of these fields remains significant in the context of the education provided at the Faculty, translating into taking appropriate action and shaping emerging projects. They become the result of parallel observations on contemporary challenges and needs – those indigenous and common – which at the same time gave shape to the joint exhibition.
Many of the works carry a sensitivity to the need for social change, proposing original solutions. An example is the project dedicated to the renovation of the interior of the prison, the basic idea of which was to transform and optimise its space. Not least, the intention of the work is to break down perceptions about prisons and similar places, helping to remove the stigma that accompanies them. Concepts that were also based on streamlining our lives and improving the way we function in everyday life are design solutions often based on the creation of prototypes, such as the Robo Assistant project. The works combine a high degree of practicality with an original design that corresponds to the latest trends. There is no shortage in them of
innovative visions in which furniture patterns and configurations are based on the arrangement of celestial bodies.
Creative innovation is also becoming a part of visual communication projects, many of which have been created using the most contemporary media, such as graphics, photography, film and games. Some of these are for pure entertainment, widely appreciated and desired, others reach into the subject of human health – both physical and mental. Despite the seriousness in the message, the means of expression used give them an approachable tone that encourages interaction. This also applies to the series of posters depicting the covers of The Bydgoszczaner magazine, (a reference to the popular New York weekly), with a clear local accent maintained among the other works. These include interior design arrangements reaching to modern adaptations of historical buildings in Bydgoszcz, as well as solutions that take into account the natural landscape of the city. As such, new interior arrangements of Opera Nova, cafés and town houses, as well as the spaces of well-known city squares, remain visible among the visualisations. Significant among the projects are also those that show concern for the environment and human beings. Realistic proposals for change in this respect have been applied to fashion, taking into account the sustainable and inclusive dimensions of the clothes on display and their adaptation to specific needs.
The student projects from the Faculty of Design Arts at the University of Science and Technology selected and presented at the exhibition allow us to change our perception of the surrounding space and the objects that accompany or fill it. They often respond to current, but also awaiting challenges and opportunities. Many of these have the potential to significantly influence reality, given the realisations presented in the exhibition, with specific motivations behind the inspiration which led to their creation.
