New Craft on full display at the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz. From April 23rd, visitors will be able to view an exhibition dedicated to contemporary craftsmanship. This event brings together 35 artists, showcasing a wide range of techniques, materials and perspectives on the creative process. ‘Nów w Pełni’ (Full New Moon) is a series of exhibitions organised by the ‘Nów. Nowe Rzemiosło’ Association, showcasing the most interesting works by its members. The Bydgoszcz edition is the seventh in the series and the largest to date. For the first time, contemporary craftsmanship is revealing such a wide range of facets. Over the past few years, the Polish craft scene has changed significantly and matured. New galleries have opened, and the term ‘collectors’ design’ has become firmly established in our vocabulary. A discussion of collectible design, of which artistic craftsmanship is an integral part, nevertheless highlights the perspective of the recipient – the collector, patron or user. This perspective inevitably focuses on the object’s appearance: its visual appeal, practicality or investment value. In the exhibition Full New Moon, we broaden this perspective and focus on what lies beyond the physical appeal of a hand crafted object. These objects are created not so much in response to market demands, but primarily as an expression of the artist’s own vision, an engagement with the material, a need to tell a personal story, a record of impressions or emotions, and the sensory experience of creating with one’s hands. Viewed in this light, the works of this new craft are closer to works of art than to everyday objects, and the exhibition Full New Moon invites us to view craft not as a collection of objects, but as a record of thought and action. This exhibition explores the dialogue between materials and heritage, and craft as a space for expression and collaboration.
