The Bydgoszcz Artists Association and the Municipal Gallery BWA in Bydgoszcz invite you to participate in the post-open-air exhibition “Barbizon on the Vistula”, Gruczno 2008.
The opening of the exhibition took place on November 17, 2oo8, 6pm, at
the Multimedia Hall of the Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz. The
open-air workshop was organised for the members of the Bydgoszcz
Artistic Association.Artists from Samara and Sankt Petersburg also took
part. The Russian artists arrived in Gruczno for a return visit after an
artistic journeyof the artists from Bydgoszcz to the Samara District in
July. The name of the open-air workshop – “Barbizon on Vistula” – is a
reference to the meetings of the Barbizon School artists, French
painters who in the second half of 19th century studied the landscape
and painted it from nature.
The goal of the open-air was to describe the Valley of the Lower
Vistula, one of the most picturesque areas of our region, by painters,
photographers and poets. Inspired by the beauty of Gruczno, ¦wiecie,
Piła Młyn, Zielonka, Chełmno, Chrystkowo and Topolno, and by the
meetings with people who live there, the artists created many works and
pieces, which are now presented in part at the post open-air exhibition.
The participants: Hanna Cander, Anna Cybulska, Andrzej Fedder, Zbigniew
Jastrowski, Justyna Jułga, Father Franciszek Kamecki, Tomasz Karcz,
Marlena Kminikowska-Grzesiak, Liubov Makhnycheva, Natalya Makhnycheva,
Andrzej Makowski, Ewa Miller, Grzegorz Pleszyński, Irina Selujanova,
Sergey Zaykin. The exhibition is accompanied by the presentation of film
and photo documentation from the artistic journey to the Samara
District, made by the group of artists from Bydgoszcz: H. Narewski, G.
Pleszyński and A. Makowski – Bydgoszcz Artistic Association; B. Ferlak
and D. Jaskuła – College of Fine Arts, Bydgoszcz.
The excursion to Russia, which was financed by the City of Bydgoszcz and
the Ministry of Culture of the Samara District, aimed at presenting the
art from Bydgoszcz and establish cooperation with the cultural
institutions and artistic circles that are active there. The artists
from Bydgoszcz took part in the artistic workshops in Shirarievo (place
where Ilya Repin used to paint) and in the meetings with the
representatives of the cultural circles of Samara and New Kuybyshev.
The exhibition is open from December 7th, in the Multimedia Hall of the
Municipal Gallery bwa in Bydgoszcz, 20 Gdańska St.
The project is financed by the budgets of the City of Bydgoszcz and the
Ministry of Culture of the Samara District.
